Bill Gates is turning his hand to contraception.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has contributed a $5 million (£3.1m) grant to help researchers at the Oregon Health & Science University develop a non-surgical, single-dose, and potentially permanent, method of contraception.
The ambition is ‘to develop additional safe, effective, acceptable and accessible methods of permanent or very long-acting contraception that will fill an unmet need for women who have reached their desired family size and do not wish to become pregnant again.’
Which would be great news for women who have had the families they want and are left with the choice of using contraception until they hit menopause, or persuading their partner to get the snip.
